Hansons Aquatics are a family run and owned business based in the West Midlands.

With three generations of fish keeping lineage, Hansons Aquatics (Est 2012) is an updated and improved re-incarnation of the original Hansons Aquatics from the 1980’s that was based in Aston, Birmingham. The business was first established by my father, Hanif who was known as “H” by customers and friends.

A brief history;

As an avid fish keeper and breeder, H got the “bug” from my grandfather. Whilst growing up and living in Malawi, most of his spare time was spent at the lake catching new stock to house in his many tanks as well as sourcing new and unusual species to keep (Not at all easy to do in Malawi in those days)

After moving to the UK his passion and enthusiasm continued, and as far as I can remember from my own childhood we have always had fish tanks as well as numerous other pets and I guess this is where I got it from.

H’s local fish shop was Witton Aquatics and over the years H and Lawrence, the then owner became good friends. In the mid eighties, Lawrence decided to retire and offered the business to H as a going concern, which H jumped at. A new location was found and after a few months Hansons {Hanif & Sons} was opened and trading with a fresh look and a much larger selection of livestock and products.

I vividly remember going straight to the shop directly from school with a crowd of friends just so I could show them “my Piranhas” and feed them…
